Abstract
Most frequent complications of dental implant surgery are related with soft tissue flap management. One of the most common post-operative complications is wound dehiscence. Surgical splint is used for protection of surgical site. The main purpose of the splint is to protect the wound from adjacent muscle action, irritation by food or tongue and to prevent swelling without excessive pressure on the surgical site. This paper introduces a simple technique of post-operative wound protection with surgical splint. The use of surgical protection splint decreased the frequency of wound dehiscence. There are several advantages of this simple technique. The adaptability of splint to the surgical wound of this simple technique is superior to that of conventional technique. Furthermore, it is more comfortable than conventional splint. Finally it is easy for patients to wear and to clean the device. The ability to protect the flap enhances the chances for successful results of dental implant surgery by preventing wound dehiscence.
